NFL draft 2017: Live grades for every pick

The 2017 NFL draft is almost halfway over with the second and third rounds happening Friday night. The Packers kicked off the action with a very good pick, getting Kevin King. The Jaguars got an A for their second-round pick, Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson.

Unfortunately for everyone except Patriots fans, New England may have gotten the best pick of the third round. They took Derek Rivers, a defensive end from Youngstown State. Rivers who a lot of experts thought had enough talent for the first round.
Game Kids Shea Weber Jersey
Tampa Bay added another weapon for the offense, getting Chris Goodwin the wide receiver out of Penn State. Just think, the 49ers couldve had Alshon Jeffery or T.Y. Hilton, who went in the second and third rounds, respectively. Drafting receivers is always a crapshoot, but it stings when you miss on one with a precious round one pick. He was active for exactly three games as a rookie and targeted just once. The 49ers swapped disappointing, over-drafted receivers with the Chiefs a year later, sending Jenkins to Kansas City in exchange for Jonathan Baldwin, neither of whom happen to be in the league anymore.

Game Kids Walt Aikens Jersey In hindsight, the 49ers picks that year were a sure sign that Trent Baalke was in over his head as a general manager. Kalils career got off to a strong start after being drafted by the Vikings with the fourth overall pick. But he went downhill from there, consistently allowing pressure and being flagged for penalties. Knee injuries may have contributed, and he had arthroscopic surgery on both knees following the 2015 season. A hip injury that required surgical repair sidelined him for most of 2016, and hell get a fresh start with the Carolina Panthers after signing with them in free agency.

I just want to be as happy as Deshaun Watson and Dabo Swinney in this ball pit

Salvador Perez Authentic Jersey
Ben Chiarot Authentic Jersey Deshaun Watson and Dabo Swinney won a national title for Clemson in January, the quarterback and coach bringing the Tigers to their greatest height in decades. Watson¡¯s now a top NFL draft prospect, and Swinney accompanied him to the draft in Philadelphia on Thursday. There is a ball pit. They went into it.

Here, via the NFL Network, is Swinney trust-falling into a pit of red and blue plastic balls. Look at the glee on his face as he begins his descent:

Watson also made the plunge and clearly felt accomplished for it:

Watson is the best player in Clemson school history. Swinney said in the winter that any NFL team passing on him would be, in effect, passing on Michael Jordan.

Watson¡¯s Clemson teammates speak effusively about him, praising him for his poise and on-field ability. We now know that in addition to being calm in the pocket, Watson is calm in the ball pit. That means tighter windows and a whole lot more information to process, diagnose, memorize, and relay to teammates.

Some guys can handle that; some guys can’t, Jackson said in March. Some guys can handle it early, and some guys can’t. I think those are the things we have to find out. Some guys might be really able to process football but can’t play as well. Some guys play as well and can’t process football.

When the Rams selected Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick a year ago, they intended to give him an entire year on the sideline to adjust to the NFL. But then the team tanked with Case Keenum at quarterback, and Goff replaced him late in the year. Goff threw just five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

NFL releases ‘statement of reasons’ for Raiders relocation

In the wake of the third NFL team announcing its intended relocation during the span of 15 months, the league released a “statement of reasons” Friday to justify why the Raiders’ move from Oakland to Las Vegas was approved by 31 of the league’s 32 owners.

[Driver] was arrested around the 100 block of NW 20th Drive after fleeing the scene of the crash. Her vehicle had a broken windshield and noticeable damage to the hood and front bumper, according to the report.

The driver told police that she consumed alcohol at a bar just off of campus two hours prior to the incident.

Police reported [the driver] failed all five parts of the field sobriety test, and had a measured blood-alcohol level of 0.19. [Driver] was charged with two counts of driving under the influence with damage to a person or property.

So best of luck, Tyler Naquin? He’s miscast as a center fielder in the majors, and it was noticeable in the postseason, with some rough moments coming under national lights. It’s possible that was a hiccup, as he’s logged 322 games in center in the minors, so he’s not exactly learning on the job. Still, the Indians would love to supplement their troika of aces with a waterbug outfield, and that’s not possible. The next option is to have a strong center fielder be the anchor for the entire outfield, and that’s not possible.

That leaves hoping that Naquin can either a) surprise defensively or b) hit enough to make them not care. Austin Jackson will help them feel better every few games, but that doesn’t take the pressure entirely off Naquin. If he’s not hitting or fielding, look for some weird ERAs and W-L records from that vaunted front three. If he’s doing both, the Indians are probably rolling.nike_jaguars_582

First base used in Game 7 of World Series sells for $101,237

Some game-used items from the World Series commanded big bucks from bidders in auctions offered by Major League Baseball that closed Monday night.

The top item was the first base used for the final two innings of Game 7 of the 2016 World Series, in which the Cubs won their first title since 1908. That base sold for $101,237, the most ever paid at auction for a baseball base.

Jacoby Brissett Limited Jersey The second base that was used in the ninth inning of Game 5 at Wrigley Field, when the Cubs won their first World Series game at home since 1945, went for $43,025.

The Cubs’ on-deck circle used for games 1, 2, 6 and 7 topped $20,000.

Not everything was for Cubs fans. The components seem as strong as ever, and BSU brings a lot of exciting pieces back: quarterback Brett Rypien, receiver Cedrick Wilson, center Mason Hampton, nose tackle David Moa, and corner Tyler Horton, to name a few.

Glen Davis Limited Jersey Still, there鈥檚 just been enough turnover to make you wonder about certain areas of the depth chart, and the brutal schedule includes trips to Washington State, BYU, San Diego State, Utah State, and Colorado State, not to mention visits from Troy, Virginia, Wyoming, and BSU鈥檚 recent nemesis, Air Force.

Jon Lester’s wild-pitch ball that brought in two runs in the form of Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis in the fifth — and gave the Indians a 5-3 lead in Game 7 — sold for more than $10,000.

The items were authenticated by Major League Baseball and auctioned by the league on its website.

Isaiah Thomas 22-year-old sister killed in car accident

Authentic Youth Le’Veon Bell Jersey
Chyna Thomas, the younger sister of Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas, was killed in a one-car accident on Saturday morning in Washington state. The accident happened at 5 a.m. on Interstate 5 in Federal Way.

Thomas car reportedly slowly drifted left before hitting a barrier and vaulting head-on into a sign post. Thomas was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry and was not wearing her seatbelt, according to police.

Thomas Facebook page listed her occupation as a package handler for FedEx, according to KIRO 7 in Washington.

Javorius Allen Authentic Jersey Savage and backup Brandon Weeden don’t seem keen on continuing that trend. Im not sure Iverson would have won the MVP had his season taken place in the context of everything we know today. It certainly would have been a more contentious debate. To be sure, Iverson had his share of detractors in his day. The basketball purists felt that his shoot-all-the-time game was wrong and reductive. Yet, without raw, analytical evidence to back up their arguments, it was all hearsay.

It’s a great opportunity. I’m going to play hard. Nothing in this league is handed to you, Savage said. You have to earn it every day. I’m pumped. It’s going to be fun.

For now, the Texans will continue to shuffle their duties in a non-traditional way. Offensive coordinator George Godsey was relieved of his duties, which means O’Brien will share playcalling duties with quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan.

As for Osweiler? Hopefully he will have better luck getting along with Hue Jackson and the Browns this season.

It’s not the officials’ job to bail your team out of a bad situation no matter how much you want them to.

It’s not an ideal position for Styles if you’re expecting an imposing exhibition of storytelling in the ring. But you can make the argument that this match garners more eyeballs than a match with a full-timer like Baron Corbin or Dean Ambrose would have. And that’s the point, much to our chagrin.
Richard Dent Mens Jersey
Game Chris Mullin Jersey This may not be the spectacle that was John Cena versus AJ Styles from the Royal Rumble, but the match will surely include some aerial maneuvers that will keep the casual fan interested in what Styles will do after this match. In the meantime, as always with Shane McMahon matches: just enjoy the spots.

And that’s the thing about WrestleMania. It unfortunately doesn’t matter to WWE how these matches came about, because they’re sure the payoff will be worth it. From the hardcore perspective, it doesn’t make it any less annoying.

Absolutely. The mentality these kids have, that comes from the coach. I remember being in the locker room after they won the game against Marquette, and Coach Martin said, “Why not win it all?” And I was like, “Wow, he means it.” You get to this point, and it’s great because they’re not happy just to be there. They’re not happy to just make the Final Four. I mean great, great, we won another game, but they feel that they can win it all.

Last night’s outcome wasn’t on the zebras. Those officials didn’t miss that tackle on Ted Ginn with 59 seconds left in the game. They didn’t throw an interception or lose a fumble. And they didn’t throw a weak pass – or give up on the pass – on the final play of the game.

They threw a flag that at least one other official felt was a mistake. They picked it up. Those were two very good teams out there. Somebody had to win, and somebody had to lose.

It’s not the officials’ job to bail your team out of a bad situation no matter how much you want them to.

Max and Caroline have run into a problem at the Williamsburg Diner where they work

If LaVar Ball’s antics have told us anything, it’s that he wants his son(s) to be the center of attention. He’s already said that he wants his son to join the Lakers, so this is easy.

The Lakers signing Lonzo Ball to a rookie max creates an interesting discussion, with Paul George’s free agency in the summer of 2018. Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov account for nearly $35 million in annual salaries combined, and George will command a max contract upward of $25 million per year in 2018.

But Ball flanking D’Angelo Russell, George, and Larry Nance make for a highly competitive team in Los Angeles. In this scenario, though, Julius Randle would be the odd man out.

The Phoenix Suns could also make an offer on Ball to create a dangerous backcourt alongside Devin Booker. But that’s assuming they’d move on from a 28-year-old Eric Bledsoe who just had a career year.

Max and Caroline have run into a problem at the Williamsburg Diner where they work: The frier is broken! They call the handyman, but instead of the old, curmudgeonly New Yorker who usually comes to help them, a hot young hipster shows up, played by Tony Romo. His mustache is waxed to pointy perfection, and Max immediately develops a crush on him.

The only problem? Tony Romo the handyman has taken a vow of celibacy until the coffee they serve at Dunkin’ Donuts becomes Fair Trade. Max is heartbroken because she knows that if she dates him she’ll never have sex again, and she doesn’t want that, so she can’t be with Tony Romo the handyman. On the upside, Tony Romo the handyman does manage to fix the frier by throwing an artisanal football at it. — Charlotte Wilder

CBS announces Tony Romo as lead NFL game analyst starting in the 2017 season

CBS officially announced Tony Romo joining their broadcast team on Tuesday afternoon. Romo will become their lead NFL game analyst to start the 2017 season alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

“When you think about the NFL, two of the most iconic brands are the Dallas Cowboys and CBS Sports,” Romo said in the CBS Sports release. “Going from one legendary team to another as I begin the next phase of my career is a dream come true. I have always known that once my playing career was over I wanted to become a broadcaster. I am ecstatic for the opportunity to work with Jim as I learn the craft and convey to fans my passion for this great game.”

Isaiah Hicks then hit a clutch layup to extend UNC’s lead to 68-65 with under 25 seconds remaining, which left Gonzaga with the chance to tie the game with a three-pointer.

That’s precisely what the Bulldogs tried, but Meeks blocked the shot from Nigel Williams-Goss, who had tweaked his ankle minutes before. It directly set up a dunk from Justin Jackson in transition that effectively put the game away.

Both teams struggled with their shots throughout the game at University of Phoenix Stadium, which makes the stunning finish all the more surprising. The Bulldogs ended up shooting just 34 percent from the field, while the Tar Heels weren’t much better at 36 percent.

This is the second straight national championship game involving UNC to end in close fashion. A year ago, Kris Jenkins was the hero with a buzzer-beating three-pointer as Villanova beat the Tar Heels, 77-74. The play came right after Marcus Paige had hit a three of his own to tie the game and, for a brief moment, force overtime.

Elite Mens Kony Ealy Jersey Jenkins was in the crowd for this game because he’s close friends with North Carolina point guard Nate Britt, too, which makes for an even better finish. This time around, he had to watch the Tar Heels come away victorious, one year after his shot send them home with a loss.

Winnipeg Jets’ emerging offense a solid starting point for their future

It’s that time of the NHL season where a few fan bases start buying playoff tickets while the rest turn their attention to MLB spring training. Elimination is no fun. But it shouldn’t color your whole fandom with tears. Just most of it. Seventy percent of it.
Kids Jarome Iginla Jersey
Don Mattingly Jersey This is the 30 percent: SB Nation NHL Silver Linings, where we send hockey’s eliminated teams into the offseason with five good things to remember from this season.

The 2017-17 season showed us just how dangerous the Winnipeg Jets can be as a franchise. Sure they were eliminated from the playoffs with a few weeks to go, but the league has been put on notice.

A year after falling to the second-last spot in the league, the Jets climbed to just within reach of batting .500. And hey, no one expected Winnipeg to contend this year, but right off the bat they were a fun team to watch.

New Orleans Saints cornerback Jabari Greer was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Greer’s season is now over, as it’s far too late for Greer to hope to return following a serious knee injury against the San Francisco 49ers. He jumped to defend a pass and landed awkwardly, immediately falling to the ground. Corey White will likely step into the starting lineup in Greer’s absence.

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Mike Pouncey is dealing with a gallbladder issue and doctors are trying to cure the problem through medicine to avoid surgery. Pouncey missed the first game of his career on Sunday when he didn’t play against the San Diego Chargers. If Pouncey has to have surgery, he’d obviously miss a significant chunk of time.
